Feb 7    Modern Voices in Japanese Ceramics and Prints

Modern Voices in Japanese Ceramics and Prints

February 07, 2015 to April 26, 2015

This exhibition of approximately thirty-five works will pair modern and contemporary Japanese prints and ceramics. The prints are from the Art Museum’s permanent collection, including selections from the Howard and Caroline Porter Collection. The Japanese ceramics of the same era are lent by Jeffrey and Carol Horvitz. Shown together, these works disclose a brilliant dialogue through shared rhythms, patterns, textures, emotions and ideas.

This exhibition is sponsored by Timothy Goldsmith, Goldsmith Cardel.

FREE Black History Month Reception:
INTRODUCING THE BLACK BUSINESS HALL OF FAME

Too few people realize that many distinguished individuals faced the realities of their time (racism, discrimination, segregation) and created an undeniable and lasting imprint of their strength that transcends generations. They found success when no one thought they could be successful; they built businesses where they weren't invited to play, and most importantly, they developed talent within individuals that looked like themselves, when there existed a perception that we lacked the talent to perform.

The African American Chamber has partnered with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to create an exhibit that showcases a century of heroes and a piece of Cincinnati history. This exhibit promotes Economic Freedom as it shares stories of iconic African American business owners that formed the foundation that today's African American business leaders now sit. The inaugural class of the Chamber's Black Business Hall of Fame include:

Horace Sudduth (Manse Hotel)
William Cargile III (Construction)
Schuyler Smith (Acme Construction)
C. Smith (Photography)
Robert O'Neal (Artist)
Julian and Gayle Renfro (Renfro Funeral Services)
Marjorie Parham (The Cincinnati Herald)
Archie Sherman (Sherman's Flower Shop)

Celebrate the induction of these important icons into this very important exhibit. You are invited to attend:
