Cintas Wins Class II Corporation of the Year
The South Central Ohio Minority Supplier Development Council (SCOMSDC) 2011 Class II "Corporation of the Year" award was presented to the Cintas Corporation. Pamela Coleman-Brailsford, Cintas Senior Director of Supplier Diversity and Sustainability, accepted the award at the SCOMSDC Annual Awards Gala and Silent Auction on November 11, 2011. Also in attendance for the celebratory occasion was Cintas President and Chief Operating Officer, J. Phillip Holloman.
The "Corporation of the Year" is the highest award presented to a current Corporate Member of the SCOMSDC. The Class II Corporation of the Year is chosen annually amongst corporations with $3 to $11.9B in revenue who consistently demonstrate a commitment to minority purchasing, technical and managerial assistance and/or sponsorships of minority programs. This commitment exemplifies equal economic opportunities for minorities and endorses the principles of the SCOMSDC. The corporation also displays strong support for the SCOMSDC and its efforts to develop business relationships with minority business enterprises (MBEs).
Although Cintas’ supplier diversity program is relatively new, the company has emerged as a national leader. Cintas formally began its journey in supplier diversity just over 5 years ago, and since then, it has become a strategic business initiative. Since the inception of supplier diversity tracking and reporting at Cintas, there has been progressive growth in percent spend and total external spend with minority and women owned businesses every year.
Cintas is able to realize such positive marks by strategically setting diverse supplier sourcing goals that project 10-15% growth year over year. These goals are heavily driven by procurement process integration, key partner training, and monitoring performance at the business unit level. Their 2011 FY spend of dollars with Certified National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) MBE’s was $99.9M. Of this amount, $8.8M was spent with SCOMSDC Certified companies.
"The Cintas Corporation is one of the most outstanding companies engaged in the minority supplier development community," said Darryl A. Peal, President of the SCOMSDC. "The expediency with which they emerged as a national leader in the field is remarkable. Cintas’ success can be attributed to the sincere commitment of senior management, and driven leaders within the company such as Pamela Coleman. "
