SUMMARY:2020 National Virtual Black and Latino Economic Summit
DESCRIPTION:Economic Recovery: Moving from Exclusion to Access and Opportunity for Black\, Indigenous\, People of Color (BIPOC) owned Small Businesses\n\n\nDecember 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm\n\nJoin us to hear from some of California's leading organizations doing groundbreaking work to support the state's diverse small businesses as they struggle to survive COVID's economic impacts. Community Development Financial Institutions\, community-based lenders\, advocates\, and other community-based organizations are finding innovative ways to support BIPOC small businesses. Come hear from leaders in the field about the best practices\, discuss how we can get to scale\, and contribute to the conversation to support California's small businesses.\n\nBIPOC owned small businesses have had less access to affordable credit and financial services due to structural racism baked into the banking system\, this has resulted in less access to the PPP loan program\, a lifeline for small businesses in the early days of the pandemic. The result? The New York Federal Reserve found that 41% of Black-owned businesses across the country shut down between February and April\, about 32% of Latino businesses and 26% of Asian businesses shut down over the same time span\, compared to 17% of white businesses during the same period.\n\nIt takes an ecosystem of changemakers to shift the current reality of financial exclusion and extraction to one of access and opportunity for Black\, Indigenous\, and other People of Color owned small businesses. Join us for this important conversation.\n\nPanelists include:\n\nTate Hill\n\nExecutive Director of Access Plus Capital\n\n\n\nMaribel Garcia\n\nSenior Associate\, Economic Development Initiatives of Inclusive Action for the City\n\n\n\nTrevor Parham\n\nCo-founder / General Partner of the Oakland Black Business Fund\n\n\n\nRon Fong\n\nExecutive Director\, Asian Pacific Islander Small Business Program\n\n\n\nDetails\n\nDate: December 10\n\nTime: 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm\n\n\n\nWebsite: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_w6KKtSvNQ6OJCeOuuRO58w
