\nMutual Dance Theatre and the Jefferson James Contemporary Dance Theater Series are proud to present the Cincinnati premiere of RUBBERBAND\, coming to us from Montreal\, Canada!
\n\nBorn and raised in Los Angeles\, the child of Mexican parents\, artistic director Victor Quijada founded RUBBERBAND in 2002. The troupe is known in Canada and abroad as an explosive\, one-of-a-kind ensemble\, combining the energy of Hip Hop\, the refinement of classical Ballet\, and the angular quality of Contemporary Dance.
\n\nRUBBERBAND&rsquo\;s mixed repertory performance in Cincinnati will feature a collection dubbed &ldquo\;Vic&rsquo\;s Mix\,&rdquo\; a &ldquo\;best-of&rdquo\; selection spanning Quijada&rsquo\;s immense creative territory. In an orchestrated clash of urban pop and classical composition\, Quijada defies notions of theatricality and audience expectations. All the while\, the physically engaging\, highly athletic dance works exemplify Quijada&rsquo\;s signature RUBBERBAND method.
\n\nThis program highlights the essential innovations of Quijada&rsquo\;s choreography\, synthesizing the fruitful results of his experiments in dance. \;Through the prism of Victor&rsquo\;s influences\, stretching from hip hop in his first forays to his mastery of contemporary tendencies\, Vic&rsquo\;s Mix is a watershed moment\, a bridge connecting the works realized until now\, a look back at pieces that established the company&rsquo\;s choreographic identity. \;The music for the production is based on original works created by Jasper Gahunia and those of classical composers (Prokofiev\, Verdi\, Bach\, Vivaldi\, among others).
