The dynamic Costa Rican conductor Giancarlo Guerrero returns to the Music Hall podium to lead an exciting program that begins with the ever-popular Barber of Seville Overture. Argentinian pianist Ingrid Fliter, a favorite of CSO audiences, brings her elegance and impressive virtuosity to Beethoven’s brilliantly imaginative Concerto No. 2, and CSO Principal Harpist Gillian Benet Sella lends her impressive artistry to Turina’s sparkling Theme and Variations. The finale, the monumental orchestral showpiece Roman Festivals—the third in Respighi’s vivid triology with Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome—depicts traditional public festivals, including the violent battles of the ancient Circus Maximus, the religious pilgrimage to the Monte Mario, the October celebration of the harvest, and the joyous night before the Epiphany.
