CurioCity puts museum experience on tap
Cincinnati Museum Center launches 21+ social event series September 8
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is invading some of your favorite watering holes and we're bringing our curators, collections and experts with us. CurioCity is a new 21 and up program that unleashes the inner museum nerd, history geek and art junkie in all of us. The new social event series kicks off September 8.
Learning doesn't have to be formal or dry. It can be social and poured into a glass. So open your mind, and a tab, as you pull up a barstool next to CMC's curators and experts. CurioCity is taking the museum on the road and into a bar for a new spin on knowledge. Each month, CMC is hosting a unique social event where you and your friends can discuss the history of portraiture while you share a pint with an art historian or raise a glass to the science of fermentation with local brewers.
Each CurioCity event features a captivating juxtaposition, such as Leonardo da Vinci and selfie culture, uncovering the fascinating science of the seemingly ordinary and celebrating Cincinnati's extraordinary. Tickets include admission to the event and access to CMC's staff of curators and experts as they present CMC's unique collection pieces and answer questions you didn't know you wanted to ask. Join them for a drink and some interactive demonstrations that'll have you and your friends looking forward to the next CurioCity event.
CMC is kicking off CurioCity on September 8 at Arnold's Bar and Grill with Know Thy Selfie, a look at over 500 years of portraiture. From da Vinci's charcoal sketches of the Renaissance to the glum portraits of the mid-1800s to the selfie culture of today, people have long had a desire to capture their image. Explore the different poses, angles and facial expressions of the different decades as you test your own selfie skills at one of several selfie stations. You can pick the brain of and get tips from art historians as you travel the timeline of portrait history.
Additional CurioCity events will also be held at Christian Moerlein's Malt House Taproom, Urban Artifact and the Hamilton County Fairgrounds:
