Portrait Drawing
Ages 13 ? Adult. Instructor: Paul Loehle
Learn fundamental and advanced techniques for drawing the human face. We will work together to develop basic skills in black-and-white mediums (primarily graphite pencil and charcoal) toward the goal of drawing human portraits. We?ll focus on facial anatomy, measuring techniques within drawing, and shading to reveal dramatic darks and lights. The framework of the class will rely heavily on instructor demonstrations, supported by sharing and feedback among students and the instructor. This class will meet remotely via Zoom.
Students supply their own materials:
- Smooth white drawing paper pad: 9?x12? ?16?x20? OR desired size
- 2-3 individual sheets of Canson Mi-Teintes paper 19?x25″ (gray)
- OR comparable charcoal paper
- OR pack of 12?x16″ Mi-Teintes Pastel paper or comparable
- Set of assorted graphite drawing pencils
- Alphacolor Char-Kole set, or comparable smooth black compressed charcoal sticks
- General?s Charcoal Pencil set, including charcoal white pencil and kneaded eraser
- Paper blending stumps (or tortillons)
- Big eraser (Pink Pearl, etc.)

CANCELLATION POLICY: Tuition is non-refundable, but can be transferred to another course if the student withdraws at least five days prior to the beginning of the course.
