UC Blue Ash College Campus Visits in Spanish
Interested in becoming a UC Blue Ash student? One of the best ways to learn about our college and decide if we are a good fit for you is to visit our campus. In addition to the regularly offered campus visits, there are some upcoming campus visits that will be presented entirely in Spanish!
This is a great opportunity for students and their family and friends who would benefit from being able to ask questions and learn about UC Blue Ash College in Spanish, to come and have a comfortable and clearly communicated experience. These Spanish campus visits are limited and are not offered regularly, so make sure to attend one of these upcoming sessions!
(Blue Ash, Ohio) ? The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is reaching out to the Hispanic/Latino community in a variety of ways; now it?s making it easier for prospective students and their families to learn more about the college in their native language. UC Blue Ash recently hosted its first Spanish language campus visit.
Regularly scheduled campus visits are held every week at the college and include information about UC Blue Ash, the application process, financial aid resources, the academic programs offered, and a guided tour of the campus. The Spanish language campus visits provide all of the same information and they are currently offered every other Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. You can go to www.ucblueash.edu/hispaniclatinoaffairs to see the current schedule.
Nick Castro, coordinator of Hispanic/Latino Affairs for UC Blue Ash, created the new event to help the parents and other family members of prospective students. ?For some of our Hispanic and Latino students, their parents do not speak English, or they are still learning the English language,? says Castro. ?Providing the information in Spanish is especially helpful for them.?
He adds that since many of the incoming Hispanic and Latino students are the first in their family to attend college, there is even more to learn and more of a need for the parents to be involved. ?Last week I had a family referred to me by a local organization,? says Castro. ?The parents had no idea about the college process; they weren?t sure how to pay or how to apply. We want all of our students to succeed and family support is a big part of that.?
The demand for the Spanish-language campus visits is expected to continue to grow. UC Blue Ash is the most diverse college within UC and approximately three percent of its 5,000-plus students identify as Hispanic/Latino. That number could go up since the U.S. Census Bureau reports the Hispanic population in Greater Cincinnati has increased from 55,000 to 64,300 over the past five years. The international student population is also on the rise at UC Blue Ash with more than 250 students representing 68 different countries this past year.
The customized campus visits are just a small part of the increased outreach by the college to current and prospective students from the Hispanic/Latino community. Castro routinely visits area high schools, has developed the Latino Leadership Institute, and he hosts a variety of events on campus that celebrate the Hispanic/Latino culture.
