In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the concept and practice of value-driven leadership. Drawing largely from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework, participants will learn to identify, clarify, and develop plans for enacting personally chosen leadership values. Because value-driven leadership is an iterative and lifelong process, materials will be shared to support ongoing practice as values continue to evolve and circumstances change over time. Course participants will be able to ask questions via webinar chat during the Q&A portion of the course.
Objectives
- Describe the difference between values and goals.
- Identify and clarify personal leadership values and learn to set goals and develop action plans based on leadership values.
- Describe strategies for overcoming internal and external barriers.

Laurie Greco, Ph.D., is the Vice-Chair of Behavioral Health and Director of Behavioral Health Training in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Prior to joining OSU, Dr. Greco was the Director of Pain Management Services at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center and a VHA national consultant for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Jefferson Barlew, Ph.D., is a Senior Linguist in the Global Accounts Division of Appen, Ltd. He leads interprofessional teams to develop training data for Fortune 100 companies and public-sector clients. Previously, as a Lead Linguist, he managed a team of independent contractors and co-led a research and development team at Facebook. Early in his career, Jefferson was a public-school teacher, mentor teacher, and Leadership Fellow at the Hamilton County Department of Education in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
