Job Title: Commission Specialist

Position Reports To: Commissions Manager
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for tracking and posting incoming revenue for HORAN Associates, and HORAN Smart Business, two divisions of HORAN through the company’s specific commission tracking software. The two primary responsibilities of this role are accurate data entry and data system management/maintenance. Strong attention to detail and data comprehension is required to read carrier commission statements and properly allocate revenue to the correct company and department as this job directly impacts financial revenue reporting and producers’ compensation. In addition, as an integral part of the accounting team, there will be other miscellaneous tasks required to be completed on a monthly basis including but not limited to system account renewal management, collections reporting, bank reconciliations, and other account reconciliations.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and scan all commission schedules to shared drive
  • Manage and report weekly status of commission posting to accounting team
  • Retrieve commission statement from various carrier websites.
  • Analyze data on commission statements for entry and manipulate files to import into commission software, Vertafore – Benefit Point.
  • Reconcile commissions received and posted in Dynamics GP, with commission statements posted into commission software and allocated by department.
  • Identify any reconcile items where commissions earned, and current month statement exists but missing commission receipt.
  • Own all ad hoc requests and reporting received from the Commissions mailbox, likely Account Manager commission receipt inquiries.
  • Run and Review Missing Payment Report monthly to identify missing payment >60 days. Contact carriers for additional information and collections.
  • Database Management
          a. Maintain commission software data integrity with new accounts, termed accounts, or change in account lines of coverage, commission schedules or carriers.
           b. Ensure commissions percentages to Account Executives and Account Managers are set up correctly in commission software program.
  • Create and manage monthly HAI direct billings to clients including collections and updates to PEPM counts, etc.
  • Monitor Direct Billing adds and terminations with the rest of the accounting team to ensure proper timing, accurate amounts, and up-to-date collections management.

Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, ERP and CRM software experience
  • Commission tracking software experience (Vertafore’s Benefit Point a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization; ability to actively listen and identify and communicate problems and root causes; ability to proactively pick up the phone and professionally and tactfully obtain the answer to your problem to meet the deliverable
  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited University, in a business-related concentration preferably in Accounting or Information Systems & Analytics
