Gateway Community & Technical College invites applications for a College Counselor (Non-Academic). This part-time position will counsel students on non-academic matters relating to mental health, personal crisis, career counseling, and make community resource referrals.

Work Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm (flexible)

Duties:

  • Counsel students on non-academic matters relating to mental health, personal crisis, career counseling, and community resources, etc.
  • Collaborates with supervisor for developing educational programs to meet the needs of the faculty, staff, and student groups.
  • Develops reports regarding the counseling department.
  • Refers students to campus resources and community partners for services beyond mental health.
  • Maintains files and communications for the counseling department in a confidential manner.
  • Develops and improves the counseling plan for the college.
  • Maintains professional knowledge through continuing education, consultation, and service on relevant committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field) or equivalent.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Licensed as an LPA, LPP, LPC, LMSW, LCSW, or CSW required. 
  • Maintain appropriate licensure and all licensure requirements under the authority of the Kentucky Division of Occupations and Professions (psychology, counseling, social work) required. 
  • Experience providing mental health and cognitive-behavior therapy required.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
  • Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/herself in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse populations and have knowledge of working with underrepresented populations in a counseling setting.  
  • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
  • Experience working at the community college level.
