Job Title: Web Communications Specialist 
Salary/Grade: $50,000 - $60,000

Job Summary:
The Web Communications Specialist will create and maintain webpages for the division-level College of Arts and Science (CAS), CAS Advising, and multiple CAS departments, centers, and programs. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintenance of a number of university-level webpages, as well as maintaining the CAS YouTube channel. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • The Web Communications Specialist’s primary responsibility is to use Miami University’s content management system (CMS) to build, organize, and update webpages. This involves supporting the information architecture and assisting clients with content analysis and site organization. In addition, the candidate must be capable of: Providing ongoing support (including training as necessary) to CAS departments/offices in their online marketing and communications efforts; writing and/or editing webpages for accuracy, clarity, and consistency; optimizing images for web use; helping to develop web content in consultation with University Communications and Marketing (UCM) and the CAS Director of Communication; working closely with colleagues and stakeholders at multiple levels within the university, including UCM, the dean, faculty department chairs, CAS advising staff, and others; adapting to new techniques, systems, and standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, professional/creative writing, interactive media, or closely related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 1 year; OR associate’s degree in communications, English, professional/creative writing, interactive media, or related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 3 years; OR previous internship or professional experience of at least 5 years. Professional experience in the production and maintenance of websites, and working with and providing guidance to designers, editors, IT specialists, content providers, or related positions; proficiency with HTML; proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or similar graphics/imaging software.
  • Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Consideration may be given to candidates with strong writing/editing background; experience working in the higher education industry; knowledge of accessibility laws (e.g., Section 508) and standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA); experience developing information architecture; demonstrated knowledge of creating and maintaining webpages for content management systems (preferably Cascade Server, WordPress, or equivalent); knowledge of both Windows and Macintosh environments; knowledge of SEO and usability best practices; experience with Google Analytics and/or other data analysis tools; organization skills that include strong attention to detail and an ability to multitask; ability to work independently and take initiative in creating new web content; ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with a broad range of campus constituencies and work as part of a cross-functional team.
