Xavier is accepting applications for Assistant Director for Career and External Relations in the Student Veterans Center; this position works specifically with the Veteran and Military connected student population. The role reports to the Director of the Student Veterans Center.

This is a grant funded position; there is funding for at least 3 years.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of the Student Veterans Center to provide essential services, which support the career and professional development of Veteran and Military Connected students.
  • Collaborate with the university Career Development Office to develop working knowledge of existing career development resources on campus, trends in the workforce and best practices for career coaching
  • Plan, develop, and deliver programming to include but not limited to career coaching/advising, interpreting career assessments, providing students with information about careers and graduate schools and managing campus & employer relations.
  • Develop relationships with Veteran friendly employers in the community for the purpose of identifying internships and full time work opportunities for Veteran and Military connected students
  • Serve as primary liaison to academic departments across the university as it relates the career and professional development of Veteran and Military connected students

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of related experience in career development and coaching
  • Knowledge of and experience supporting Military and Veteran community

An ideal candidate will have:

  • The capacity be a self-starter and able to work independently
  • Knowledge of the transition a service member experiences when separating or retiring from the military
  • A desire to work with students individually and in group settings
  • Willingness to initiate and develop relationships with companies and organizations outside of the university environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in higher education, specifically career coaching, or in industry with HR or campus recruitment experience
  • The capacity to be a self-starter and able to work independently
