Gateway Community & Technical College invites applications for the Academic Advisor for Manufacturing & Transportation Division. This full-time advisor will provide accurate academic advising for Manufacturing & Transportation students and provide support to academic divisions at Gateway.

Duties:
 

  • Provide Academic Advising
    • Responsible for providing academic advising for new, transfer, and first-semester students.
    • Support exploration of the student's academic and career objectives.
    • Identify non-academic barriers and offer appropriate internal and external referrals.
  • Communicates Effectively and collaborates with others
    • Responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative and supportive relationships with faculty, student support programs, and college offices and communicating efficiently both orally and written.
  • Supports Advising Department Operation
    • Responsible to act as interim Advising Department Director when Director is out of office.
    • Must be able to assume daily office managerial issues when needed. 
    • Provides divisional support for Academic Dean and faculty within the division. 
  • Accurate Maintenance of Student files
    • Responsible for recording and maintaining files accurately, in paper and software programs.
    • Create an individualized student SMART Plan (Student Mentoring Through Advising, Retention & Transitions).
  • Demonstrate Professional Behavior
    • Responsible for effective and appropriate interactions with diverse populations and providing in-person advising on different GCTC campuses when needed.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service
    • Responsible for providing a high standard of customer service when assisting students with problem resolution and ability to seek input from alternate authority if necessary, use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
  •  Other duties as assigned.
 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Education, Counseling or any related field, or equivalent.
  • 1 - 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
  • Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/herself in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or equivalent.
  • 3 - 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of higher education advising is a plus
  • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
  • Experience working at the community college level.
