Job Title: Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor

Job Summary:
Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) to teach, advise students, and provide administrative service to the institution. Responsible for instructional design, course coordination and teaching a limited number of sections of Business Computing (CSE 148). CSE 148 is an introduction to business-oriented computer skills based on Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and SQL (structured query language) involving extensive hands-on use of electronic spreadsheets and database software by students. Examples and exercises stress problem-solving in a business context. Additional responsibilities include managing course enrollment, oversight of student teaching assistants, making hiring recommendations to the department chair, and training new course instructors. Appointment begins August 2023.

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering offers undergraduate Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in computer science and a Bachelor of Science in software engineering. A Master of Science in Computer Science degree is the highest degree program offered by the department. The department’s faculty is comprised of 34 full-time faculty. Each fall and spring semester, the department offers 25 to 30 sections of Business Computing (CSE 148). The course is taken primarily by students in degree programs offered by the Farmer School of Business. Over 1,600 students are enrolled in the course each year.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, Educational Technology or a closely related field by date of appointment for appointment as Assistant Teaching Professor. To be appointed to Associate rank, candidates must have a PhD. in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, Educational Technology or a closely related field by date of appointment and have three or more years of full-time teaching experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Consideration may be given to candidates with extensive experience in computing or prior teaching experience who can document excellence in the classroom and candidates with significant professional experience with the relevant applications and business computing concepts taught in CSE 148.
