Job Summary:
Assistant /Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Clinical Education provides classroom instruction and serves as an advocate for the Physician Associate Studies Program within the medical community and provides continuous, competent guidance for the clinical curriculum of the PA program, including establishing and maintaining preceptor and site recruitment, overseeing clinical affiliation agreements, student evaluation process, all on-campus curriculum and continued learning, testing and competency development activities.
Duties will include but are not limited to: classroom teaching; orienting and directing students to the assignments and requirements of the clinical year rotations; coordinating the evaluation of both student academic and task proficiencies; developing supervised clinical experiences that preserve clinical education and program mission, and designing a viable model to evaluate student and preceptor experiences for compliance; ensuring adherence with the Board of Medical Examiners regarding students and clinical rotations; working closely with the program director to ensure accuracy of program reporting; assisting with data collection and analysis to support ARC-PA self-assessment process; assisting with the student selection process; performing any other responsibilities delegated by the PA Program Director and/or the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
- NCCPA-certified Physician Assistant or current board certification by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board for physician; preferred Master’s degree (or higher) from an accredited Physician Associate/Assistant program or MD/DO degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school; may also consider a bachelor's degree with more than 10 years of tested clinical experience in at least one primary discipline; licensure in Ohio or ability to obtain Ohio licensure within twelve months of appointment; minimum of five years of clinical practice experience; at least three years of teaching experience in graduate medical education for appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor. Appointment at advanced rank of Associate Teaching Professor requires credentials demonstrating at least 5 years of high-quality teaching and service in a Physician Associate/Assistant program.
Desired Qualifications:
- Consideration may be given to candidates with general knowledge and proficiency in didactic lecture and clinical instruction; experience using competency-based materials for PA education; awareness of and adaptability of various trends in educational methodologies for teaching skills; ability to assist in didactic and clinical curriculum development and review; exceptional small and large group communication skills, evidence of marketing, analytic and outcome skills; work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
