Job Title: Chair and Associate Professor or Professor
Chair & Associate or Full Professor to foster exemplary teaching, research (including the pursuit of external funding), and creativity while promoting diversity, global awareness, and social responsibility throughout the programs in the department. Primary department budget responsibilities reside with the Chair. Other duties include recruiting and retaining an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty skilled in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, and integration of knowledge; mentoring, development, and evaluation of faculty; participating in the recruitment and retention of a culturally diverse student body; building partnerships designed to achieve professional impact; working with alumni; course scheduling and developing and expanding on-line and hybrid course offerings; overseeing internal program assessments and external assessments through the State of Ohio and relevant accrediting bodies for the school leadership program; helping to elaborate and implement—with the faculty—a strategic vision for the department and the department’s future directions. In addition, the chair serves as part of the Dean’s leadership team and works in collaboration with other chairs and members of the Dean’s staff to advance the mission and goals of the College. College of Education, Health and Society (EHS): Founded in 1902, the College of Education, Health, and Society was Miami University’s first professional school and home to Miami’s first graduate of color. CEHS continues to lead the way with the highest percentage of diverse students and faculty across the university. The department is one of six in the College of Education, Health, and Society, offering a range of graduate and undergraduate programs. The overarching areas of focus for graduate programs are K-12 educational leadership and leadership in student affairs in higher education. The department offers master’s degrees in School Leadership, Transformative Education, and Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) as well as three doctoral degrees: Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Leadership, Curriculum and Culture; Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Interdisciplinary Studies; and a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership. Two K-12 administrative licensure programs are also offered through the department. Both school leadership master’s degrees and the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership are offered at several offsite locations across Southwest Ohio and the department is working to move some programs entirely online. The department’s 16 full-time faculty and 2 administrative staff serve approximately 250 graduate students and nearly 50 undergraduate students across its several programs.
Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social and Cultural Studies in Education, Curriculum Studies, Foundations of Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education by the date of appointment; demonstrate teaching and scholarship qualifications to merit the rank of associate or full professor; provide evidence of commitment to developing faculty and programs that support engagement with diverse students and community populations; and evidence of high performance in areas of leadership, scholarship, and instructional effectiveness.
For appointment at the associate rank, a strong research and publication record, evidence of teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in a program area offered by the department.
For appointment at the professor rank, a distinguished record of scholarly research, evidence of excellent quality teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, meaningful service at the department and college, and university level, and professional achievement are additionally required.
Consideration may be given to candidates with evidence of insight into the changing nature of the higher education sector and how to position interdisciplinary educational leadership departments to successfully respond to those changes through creativity and entrepreneurial thinking, including working collaboratively with faculty within and outside of the department to advance new and revised academic programs; evidence of a commitment to communities or have led community partnership-oriented initiatives; experience with faculty development and faculty mentorship; background in curriculum development. Applicants should be committed to data-informed decision making and program assessment. A commitment to and experience with working with offsite delivery modalities as well as diverse communities is also desired.
