GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Coordinate work of the Office of Second Language Acquisition, which supports 90+ staff and over 4,000 English learners in CPS. Problem-solve effectively, work independently as well as part of a team. Coordinate and assist with Title III compliance activities including assessments, parent notification, translations, etc. 
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Support ESOL staff with access to and tracking of internal resources needed to fulfill their job duties. 
  • Coordinate ESOL services and compliance across various district departments (i.e EMIS, Testing, OCE, IT, etc.)
  • Maintain EL student records to ensure compliance for both nonpublic and public school ELs within CPS boundaries.
  • Provide technical assistance, synthesis, and succinct communication of data about ELs in CPS. 
  • Knowledge of and experience using data systems and tools for communicating data effectively.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with all DSS Specialists regarding budgets and compliance 
  • Support district staff with interpreter and translator requests. 
  • Communicate effectively with third-party vendors for translators and interpreters.
  • Communicate with ESOL coordinators regarding compliance procedures, training, and fulfillment of duties.
  • Assist in problem-solving for EL families, staff, and community who call or email the Office of Second Language Acquisition.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with community partners who support ELs in CPS.
  • Act as an advocate for English learners and their families within the community.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
  • Maintain accurate tracking systems for files and due dates for quick reference and follow-up
  • Present a professional and congenial demeanor when interacting with staff, parents, and children
  • Attending required in-service trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by DSS or OSLA
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Spanish Bi-lingual candidate preferred
 
REPORTS TO:
ESL Manager 
 
EMPLOYMENT PROVISIONS: Year Round  (260 days annually)
