Head of Montessori Laboratory School and Teaching Professor

Xavier University is seeking a full-time Head of the Montessori Laboratory School and Teaching Professor. The candidate for this position must have a strong foundation in Montessori philosophy, as well as Montessori classroom and school leadership experience. This position is responsible for overall leadership of the Montessori Laboratory School to promote and foster “an interwoven community of parents, students, and educators steeped in high-quality Montessori pedagogy.” (see https://www.xavier.edu/montessori-lab-school/ ) Furthermore, as an integral part of the University, the Head of School will nurture relationships embracing the many available resources at Xavier.
The Head of the School will exhibit and model a positive, participatory leadership style over all areas of the Montessori School, including: student instruction, teacher development, curricular issues, parent relations, administrative reporting, community & government relations, assessment, and accreditation responsibilities. The Head of the School facilitates collaboration among teachers, parents, administrators, and staff with activities and events to enrich learning and a spirit of community. As a teaching professor, the Head of School is afforded an opportunity to instruct at least one Montessori college course per calendar year.
Education and Experience
- Minimum three years teaching experience in a Montessori classroom
- Minimum one year Administrative experience in a Montessori setting
- American Montessori Society Credential or comparable Montessori credential
- Masters or above in an appropriate area of study
- State of Ohio teaching license or principal license or the willingness to complete or transfer state licensure.
- Ability to work with diverse groups
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Multiage credentialing
- Administrative education and training
