Job Title: Student Support Specialist

Job Summary:
The Student Support Specialist analyzes and determines student support and learning technology needs. This role supports Canvas LMS troubleshooting, performance dashboards, help desk ticketing system, and other available tools or support solutions. The selected candidate will serve as the primary contact for resolving learning technology issues and work with Miami Online staff to resolve concerns. The Student Support Specialist will develop, collaborate, and assist in creating other student success reporting, documentation, tools, and resources. The position is a one-year appointment with the potential for renewal based on funding and performance.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • Monitors and reports student success concerns to Miami Online leadership and takes steps for resolution as directed
  • Investigates and recommends potential student success solutions that make a positive impact for fully online students, faculty support, and learning technologies
  • Assists in managing the maintenance of Canvas, project management, help desk ticketing system, knowledge base, video repository, and other key Miami Online support platforms
  • Collects and reports on key metrics related to learning technology service
  • Researches, evaluates, and deploys new technologies in response to pedagogical needs
  • Maintains both professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and pursuing related professional development opportunities

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, education administration, information technology, organizational development, or other related discipline OR Associates degree and four or more years of related professional experience, and one or more years of experience in supporting technology and/or student success support programs, preferably in an educational setting. Position not eligible for H1B sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with: Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience with learning management systems and video content management platforms (e.g., Kaltura), preferably in higher education; Proficient in using Excel, project and/or time management software, learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, Moodle, Sakai), and reporting/documentation software; Experience creating user documentation with multimedia tools, including screencasts, interactive digital content, and text/graphics; Experience in technology-focused organizational development and leadership; Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to communicate with key campus partners.
