Job Title: Manager Library Operations & Planning

Job Summary:

Manager Library Operations & Planning will participate in all aspects of facilities projects, from daily building maintenance to special projects to renovation and construction. The primary responsibilities include: all library facilities operations and associated equipment and building systems, room scheduling, coordination and supervision of maintenance, renovation/construction projects, and event support. This position requires the ability to think strategically about the use of space within the University Libraries as well as engagement in the execution of the daily tasks associated with the use of said space.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • Assist in determining the functions and utilization of spaces within the university libraries.
  • Assist management in identifying problems, trends, or future space needs and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Organize and assign work orders in accordance with organizational priorities.
  • Serve as liaison with the Physical Facilities Department and on-site partners such as the Howe Writing Center, eSports, the Office of Research for Undergraduates, University Police on matters related to building security and Housing, Dining Recreation and Business Services.
  • Maintain inventory control of materials and office supplies, furnishings and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate basic facility site conditions.
  • Frequently inspect facilities to proactively detect potential problems and recommend their necessary repair or maintenance.
  • Maintain building keys and door locks, building alarm systems, and building access system.
  • Supervise loading dock and oversee all materials transport, shipping, and receiving functions.
  • Manage space reservations and events within and for the University Libraries and provide on-site support as needed. This support requires the ability to move furniture, fully loaded book carts, etc. and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Recruit, train and manage a team of student employees.
  • Serve as building emergency contact, lead the Libraries Response Team, and ensure that the Libraries’ Immediate Action Guide is up to date regarding all points of contact within the system.
  • Provide on-site coordination of moves for facilities-related projects.
  • Maintain a list of endowed spaces within the university libraries and ensure that use of space is in compliance with the gift agreement of the donor.
  • Position will eventually provide oversight of all aspects of stack maintenance within the university libraries.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree and basic knowledge of building maintenance. This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree, effective oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, knowledge of emergency management, knowledge of event planning and execution, knowledge of stack maintenance in an academic library setting.
