Job Title: Assistant Director of Academic Advising
Assistant Director of Academic Advising (2 positions) with primary responsibility supervising academic advisors, overseeing admission events, diverse student development, career development, and first year experience course curriculum.
- The Assistant Director of Academic Advising (2 positions) supervises full time professional staff advisors; coordinates comprehensive staff training for new hires and staff development; provides leadership to advising staff to respond to complex inquiries and guidance regarding academic policies, university procedures, and best practices; assists the Assistant Dean and Director of Divisional Advising with department leadership tasks; develops, implements, and assesses first year experience course (BUS 106) curriculum for all first-year business students; teaches first year experience course; liaises to FSB Careers, FSB Diverse Student Development (Passport, first generation students, etc.), Honors College and Business Honors programs; provides on-site support for study abroad programs. Academically advises assigned FSB students including but not limited to interpreting campus policies and procedures, co-creating degree completion plans and articulating progress, setting and defining goals, identifying course equivalencies at domestic and international institutions, exploring academic programs and careers, referring to appropriate campus resources, and supporting student development and engagement. Supports students seeking admission to FSB majors and minors and drop in advising. Assists in recruiting new and prospective first year and transfer students through individual advising appointments, small group information sessions, and large scale divisional events; initiates and leads divisional admission events in conjunction with the Office of Admission; oversees intra-university transfer admission; guides FSB Ambassadors; initiates and leads divisional orientation program in conjunction with Orientation and Transition Programs; other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director of Divisional Advising.
- Master’s degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, or Student Affairs and Higher Education or other closely related field and at least 4 years of experience in advising or a closely related field.
- Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
- Consideration may be given to candidates with 4 years advising and professional experience in an undergraduate business program, supervisory experience, and experience in admission, diverse student development, career development, or coordinating a first year experience course; superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software and internet applications; ability to work effectively and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders in different contexts, including faculty, staff, and students.
