Job Summary:

Miami University’s Communications and Marketing department has been charged with building and maintaining the university’s brand on a local, regional, and national stage. This dynamic and award-winning team is comprised of over 60 marketing and communications professionals and is looking to hire an Assistant Director of Web Development.

The Assistant Director of Web Development participates in the production of web and online projects, with main responsibilities involving planning, development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the functionality and templates of web sites for constituents across campuses while adhering to standards and promoting the institutional brand. In addition to strong attention to detail, the candidate must be adept at juggling multiple assignments and producing high quality work under tight deadlines.

Professional development is important to our teams. The person in this position will have opportunities to attend workshops or conferences to enhance their skills and gain cross-training in other areas of marketing and communications.

This position is eligible for full-time remote work. Remote work is not a right, it is a work arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason, including the convenience of the University.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • The primary responsibilities are to assist the director of web marketing in building and executing web strategies; oversee the planning and assist in the implementation of the university’s branded web templates, functionality, and pages within Miami's web presence. Additional duties include: mentor and collaborate with members of the web development team on projects, ensuring templates and functionality meet minimum accessibility guidelines; testing and ensuring cross-browser and cross-platform quality; collaborating with university colleagues to contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment; researching and testing new software or tools that will improve the experience of Miami's site visitors; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, interactive media, or related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 5 years; OR
  • Associate's degree in computer science, interactive media, or related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 7 years; OR
  • Previous professional experience of at least 10 years
  • At least 2 years of experience in object-oriented programming practices (e.g. Java, Velocity, or related languages)
  • At least 3 years of experience using HTML 5 and related basic web technologies
  • At least 3 years of experience using development languages (particularly JavaScript, PHP, and SQL) to build websites or applications
  • At least 3 years of experience using JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as jQuery, Vue, and Bootstrap
  • Position not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

  • Ability to lead web projects and take initiative in researching and creating new functionality
  • Mentoring junior team members to guide them in professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot coding problems and find solutions
