The Athletics Academic Advisor will provide comprehensive academic support services to student-athletes under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Services, for specifically assigned sport programs within the Athletics Department. These services will include, but are not limited to: provide intense monitoring and academic support for at-risk student-athletes, assist with student-athlete specific registration issues, monitor the admission and registration status of incoming student-athletes, coordinate faculty academic progress reports, and assist in the academic advising load of undeclared student-athletes. 

The Advisor will interpret, analyze and monitor academic progress of student athletes; assess student-athlete overall academic performance and its impact on progress toward graduation and NCAA eligibility; maintain knowledge of all NCAA and University rules concerning academic standing and eligibility requirements. The Athletics Academic Advisor must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a compliance and academic program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes and strives for excellence within the University’s mission.
 
Compliance with NCAA rules is of the utmost importance at Northern Kentucky University. As a member of the athletics department staff, it is expected that the Athletics Academic Advisor will have a full understanding of the NCAA rules that pertain to the position. It is also expected that the individual in this position will comply with all NCAA rules and if he/she becomes aware, or have reasonable cause to believe, that a violation of a rule has occurred he/she will immediately report it to the Director of Athletics or his/her designee.

Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide comprehensive academic support services to specifically assigned sport programs, monitoring progress for at-risk student-athletes and assisting with specific registration and/or admission issues for incoming student-athletes.
  • Review and evaluate transcripts for incoming freshmen and transfer students to confirm NCAA eligibility status.
  • Act as primary liaison to Undergraduate, Graduate and International admission offices
  • Assist in the maintenance of the NCAA Compliance Assistant Database
  • Assist in the compilation of various academic and NCAA reports

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 1 year of advising experience
  • Experience working as an intern or GA for Student Services; preferably within a Division I Athletics Program
  • Advanced technology skills and experience with the ability to quickly learn technical advising tools including SAP, and EAB.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish excellent rapport with students, parents and families, colleagues, and the campus community
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population.
