Miami University’s Communications and Marketing department has been charged with building and maintaining the university’s brand on a local, regional, and national stage. This dynamic and award-winning team is comprised of nearly 60 marketing and communications professionals and is looking to hire a Brand and Licensing Manager.

The Brand and Licensing Manager will work with a dynamic team of digital marketers, designers, web developers, and content creators to manage the brand and sub-brand assets and enforce Miami University’s brand standards across the University system.

As Brand and Licensing Manager, you will also lead all licensing efforts for the University and work with our licensed vendors and retailers. You'll oversee the protection of the university’s brand, including the management of the university’s trademark portfolio and coordinating with both internal and external counsel on legal matters. In addition, you’ll direct the marketing and communications strategy of our licensed program to drive both B2B (vendors, bookstore, and others) and B2C awareness, engagement, and revenue growth with Miami University primary and secondary audiences for our licensed products.

Miami is looking for a flexible manager that adapts and works well across multifunctional teams. The successful candidate must be able to meet deadlines consistently; be customer service driven, and be people-oriented. This means the successful candidate knows how to balance interpersonal interactions and time management with a clear understanding of what is urgent and what is important.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • Serve as a strong brand ambassador to the university community by building strong relationships on campus.
  • Supports the Director of Creative Services with enforcing the visual brand identity and branding guidelines, ensuring they are consistently applied and integrated into myriad use cases, applications, projects, and campaigns across the institution. Oversees the review process, with a team, for materials created both internally and externally.
  • Supports the Director of Creative Services to develop effective strategies to educate and inform internal and external stakeholders on brand standards, promoting visual and identity guidelines, and ensures guidelines are up-to-date and responsive to university needs including but not limited to: signage/wayfinding; Athletics; official groups, affiliate groups, and organizations; environmental graphics; retail/licensed product, and social media and digital assets.
  • Works with the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications and Director of Content Strategy to ensure that the brand voice is consistent across all platforms and works collaboratively to maintain content guidelines up-to-date as it applies and relates to the Miami Brand.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Works with the university’s Licensing Agency to identify the fastest-growing product categories, helping partners make key product and merchandising decisions, when and where they need guidance most.
  • Works with providers to ensure that Miami University’s brand is appropriately represented on merchandise (clothing, accessories, and other product categories)
  • Regularly ideate, assess, and deliver new concepts, strategies, and ideas to grow our brand nationally by supporting the growth of new licensed products.
  • Works with licensing partners and retailers on campaigns to move products off the shelf
  • Collaborate with digital and social teams to amplify product campaigns throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with the university’s retailers on product positioning, strategic messaging, and campaign creative development to sell merchandise as a brand-building technique.
  • Manage licensed vendor contracts.
  • Oversee the athletics/alumni e-commerce site contract.
  • Manage Miami’s trademark portfolio.
  • Work with the Office of General Counsel on all brand and licensing matters.
  • Review university contracts to ensure that the brand is used properly,
  • Collaborate with Miami’s licensing agency, General Counsel, and outside trademark counsel on cease and desists and other legal matters,
  • Serve as the primary contact for the university with the Workers Rights Consortium.
  • Manage Miami’s licensing agency contract and relationship.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (business, communications, management, graphic design) or a similar discipline
  • At least two (2) years of experience in Licensing and account or brand management (experience may be earned concurrently)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Brand management experience.
  • Two to three (2-3) years of experience in an advertising agency, preferably as an account executive or brand manager.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of integrated marketing communications
