Job Title: Learning Designer

Job Summary:
eLearning Miami: Learning Designer supports the planning, designing, and development of effective online and hybrid learning experiences. This position actively collaborates with individual faculty, program leads, and departments to support their online and innovative learning needs. The selected candidate exhibits knowledge of pedagogical theory, digital media standards, and best practices that empower the effective use of technology in learning. Miami University recognizes that technology enables us to find new ways of providing first class service and workplace flexibility. This position is approved for remote work on a full-time basis with occasional meetings on the Oxford, Ohio, campus and following a successful period of onboarding. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • The Learning Designer will analyze and apply instructional design theories, practices, and methods; create engaging and effective learning activities and compelling course content; communicate and collaborate with faculty or subject matter experts in planning courses, selecting appropriate educational technology, and identifying course delivery strategies; work with media professionals and video production team to facilitate online and hybrid student engagement; explore new course design strategies and contemporary learning models.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requirement: Bachelor's degree, in instructional design, education, media, communications, visual communications, or closely related field; two years of demonstrated experience in building technologically mediated courses, preferably in higher education.
  • Position is not eligible for H1B sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Consideration may be given to candidates with a Master’s degree; familiarity with: Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate 360, HTML/CSS, WCAG; desired specialties: emerging technologies, graphic design, media production, project management, or advanced-level LMS and technology support; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with faculty, staff, students, and outside contacts, teaching experience, whether online, hybrid, or face-to-face; a strong understanding of instructional design models and principles, educational theory, and instructional technology; experience developing engaging instructional materials in Canvas or other learning management systems such as Blackboard, D2L, Moodle, Open edX, etc.
