Job Summary:
The Research Participant Recruiter’s primary responsibilities will be to work with the Later Language Development Lab director to reach the participant recruiting goals of the Transition Pragmatics Interview development project. The Transition Pragmatics Interview (TPI) is a new assessment of social communication. It is designed to support clinicians as they identify intervention goals for adolescents who are preparing to transition from K-12 education to adult settings (jobs, independent living, etc.). Working with the research team, the Participant Recruiter will identify new sources of research participants, identify professionals who can refer participants to the project, and ensure that participants and referring professionals are respected and protected as outlined in the project’s protocols approved by the university’s Institutional Review Board. This is a part-time position, 20 hours/week, 11 months. The duties and responsibilities of the position allow for working remotely. This is a 1-year position, the incumbent would be considered for reappointment for a second year.

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • This position will work with the Later Language Development Lab Director to develop and execute a participant recruitment plan. Execution of the plan would involve coordinating with known sources of referring professionals to communicate the opportunities to participate in research. The position would also take steps to identify new sources of referring professionals and new sources to recruit participants directly, such as through postings on social media, via email, or physical posting of flyers. The position would work to align the flow of volunteer participants with the capacity for the team to promptly screen, schedule and complete the research protocols. The position would ensure referring professionals complete consent forms before making referrals, and would track referrals to identify professionals qualifying for honoraria. The position would facilitate the prompt completion of scoring and score reporting to professionals and participants who request reports. The position would act as a liaison between referring professionals, disability support groups and others to address questions on the project and resolve any problems with scheduling or other steps. As time allows, the position may mentor and teach new student research assistants in project procedures, human subjects protections, and test administration, and complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology (or communication sciences and disorders) or masters/specialist-level degree in school psychology or bachelor’s degree in special education plus 2 years of relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Consideration may be given to candidates with prior human subject research experience, familiarity with promotion via social media, networking, excellent in-person and online communication skills, and knowledge of responsible conduct of research (online training will be required but may be completed on the job); technical skills in spreadsheet applications, secure file sharing, Qualtrics and video conferencing software; excellent teamwork skills.
