Job Summary:
Serving at a basic level with supervision, manage infrastructure and integrated technical services in cloud based and local environments providing the highest levels of availability, reliability, performance and service in support of Miami University’s academic, research and business missions.
Duties/Physical Demands:
- Follow well-defined support procedures and installing, configuring and maintaining virtualization, backup and storage management systems with oversight.
- At a basic level support and administration of operating systems, servers and associated components.
- Learn procedures, contacts, etc. for handling service requests, incident resolution (both hardware and software), etc. for services.
- Run under supervision programs and scripts to automate, extract information and perform routine functions and tasks.
- Perform basic tier I systems administration under supervision.
- Identify opportunities and develop Linux or Windows programs and shell scripts for system maintenance and user support using appropriate coding languages.
- Deploy pre-defined Server Images to both virtual and physical hardware
- Support, maintain and participating in the expansion of the university's Information Technology hardware infrastructure
- Using monitoring tools, check for performance and stability within the university's Information Technology infrastructure.
- Participates under supervision in the delivery of performance monitoring and capacity planning services for university's Information Technology infrastructure environment.
- Actively engage in and help promote a service excellence approach throughout IT Services
- Actively pursue trends in the industry and professional development activities
- Observer in projects involving departmental or cross-functional teams
- Carry a mobile phone and maintain availability for on-call rotation
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned
- May occasionally teach one approved one credit bearing course per semester on an as needed basis and with division approval.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates Degree or enrolled in a relevant degree program
- OR 2+ years relevant experience
- Related experience gained during the completion of degree programs may be counted towards these requirements. Just remember that student employee experience is counted at half-time (unless it's otherwise noted on their application materials).
- This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Basic experience in the installation and administration of upgrades, configuration, monitoring, storage, backups and troubleshooting and security of compute platforms
- Basic experience in evaluating, customizing and diagnosing server operating system software in a complex and heterogeneous environment
- Basic experience in architectural design of servers and associate subsystems including operating systems, storage, backups, services, monitoring and alerting
- Basic experience with Administration of cloud based systems.
- Basic exposure to incident and change management procedures
