The temperatures might be on the rise, but you still have a license to chill at any one of this week’s memorable events downtown! Saturday morning, break the ice on your winter workout routine at the Cincinnati Cyclones Frozen 5K/10K benefiting the Cincinnati Cyclones Foundation. Each year, thousands of brave runners take to the streets in support of youth hockey programs in our community. The unique race takes participants on a course along the Ohio Riverbank and through Cincinnati’s Transit Center underneath Second Street! If you’re getting cold feet, beloved mascots Twister and Puckchop will be there to cheer you through the finish. All registered runners will receive a long-sleeve tee shirt, a finisher medal, post-race hot chocolate, and a ticket voucher good for any regular season home game in the Cyclones’ 2024-2025 season! Celebrate the start of Black History Month at the Main Library’s African American Read-In (AARI) event on Saturday from 12 to 3PM. AARI is a groundbreaking national effort to encourage communities to read together, centering on African American books and writers. Featuring authors Taylor BridgeforthJeremy ClarkTaylor Darks, and Shawn Pryor, this all-ages, free event commemorates books written by Black authors that elevate Black experiences. In addition to hearing from featured authors, eventgoers can visit literary-based and African American culture organizations, buy a book, get an autograph, and make a craft!

Black History Month kickoff festivities continue into Saturday evening at The BLK Gala hosted by The BLK Foundation. The BLK Gala is a night of celebration, bringing together community members, stakeholders, and leaders to remember our past and create our future. This annual event honors our region’s history makers, heroes, and creatives that have shaped Black culture. All proceeds from the gala benefit The BLK Foundation’s mission to support children from low-income and marginalized communities in their pursuits to achieve college and career success. This year the black-tie evening takes place in the Fountain District at the 21C Hotel beginning at 6:30PM. Reserve your seat and dress to dazzle!
