Blue Whales: Return of the Giants brings the world's largest animal to the domed screen

CINCINNATI – The largest animals ever to have lived are coming to the only screen big enough to hold them. Massive blue whales will fill the 72-foot domed screen of Cincinnati Museum Center’s Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theater when Blue Whales: Return of the Giants opens June 7.

VIEW TRAILER

At over 90 feet long and weighing more than 165 tons, blue whales are the largest animals to have ever lived, bigger even than any dinosaur. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants takes you beneath the waves and alongside these magnificent mammals to explore their aquatic world, including their spectacular feeding habits (eating nearly four tons of krill every day), their long-distance communication (reaching 188 decibels, louder than a jet engine) and their tender mother-calf bonds (during which young calves gain nearly 200 pounds per day!).

“The OMNIMAX® Theater excels at immersing you in larger-than-life stories and Blue Whales shows you exactly how large life can be,” said Dave Duszynski, vice president of featured experiences at Cincinnati Museum Center. “The film is stunning in its visual beauty and in the breathtaking way it brings you into the world of the blue whale. It truly uses every inch of the theater to bring you alongside these astounding creatures.”

Narrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis, Blue Whales: Return of the Giants provides an unforgettable window into the lives these animals live – and the extremes scientists must endure to study them. Above and beneath the ocean’s surface, the film joins scientists off the exotic Seychelles Islands on a high-risk mission to find a missing population of blue whales not seen in 50 years. Meanwhile, researchers in the stunning Gulf of California explore the role blue whales play in the health of our oceans, using drones to track and study their health and movements.

Joined by a cast of supporting characters including dolphins, sperm whales, orcas and sea lions, the blue whale finally gets its star turn… on the nearly-larger-than-life OMNIMAX® screen.

Blue Whales: Return of the Giants was produced by Oceanic Films with major funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is the third collaboration between SK Films and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios.
