FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fiesta Salsera Cincinnati Brings Community Together Through Dance, Culture, and Humanitarian Support During Hispanic Heritage Month

Celebrating our Culture. Dancing for a Cause

CINCINNATI, OHIO (September 11, 2026) – The Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA Foundation (HCCUSA Foundation) invites the community to experience the energy, rhythm, and spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month at Fiesta Salsera Cincinnati – An Amateur Dance Competition, held on September 17 as part of Salsa on the Square in downtown Cincinnati.

More than a dance competition, Fiesta Salsera Cincinnati is a celebration of culture, community, and compassion. Through music, dance, friendly competition, and charitable giving, the event will bring together individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations under one unifying message:

As Hispanic Heritage Month begins across the country on September 15, Fiesta Salsera Cincinnati showcases the rich cultural traditions that continue to shape and strengthen our communities. Featuring amateur dance teams and salsa enthusiasts from throughout the region, the competition highlights the joy, creativity, and connection that music and dance inspire.

Participants will compete for two cash prizes generously provided by Heidelberg Distributing Company, including:

  • First Place: $1,000
  • Second Place: $500

The competition takes place during Salsa on the Square, one of Cincinnati's premier cultural events, creating an opportunity for residents of all backgrounds to experience the vibrant traditions of the Hispanic community while enjoying an evening of music, dance, and celebration.

"Fiesta Salsera reflects the energy, pride, and diversity of our Hispanic community," said Alfonso Cornejo, President of the HCCUSA Foundation. "During Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to celebrate the traditions that unite us while creating opportunities for the broader Cincinnati community to come together, build relationships, and experience the power of culture through dance."

While Fiesta Salsera celebrates culture, it also serves a greater purpose.

The HCCUSA Foundation is partnering with Matthew 25: Ministries and Apoyo Latino to support families and communities impacted by the recent earthquakes in Colombia and Venezuela. Throughout the event, attendees can contribute humanitarian aid and financial donations that will directly assist affected communities.

Donations collected through the earthquake relief drive will be distributed through trusted nonprofit and community partners working directly in the impacted regions to ensure resources reach the families most in need.

Community members may make financial contributions to support disaster relief efforts or bring nonperishable food items, hygiene products, and basic medical supplies to a designated collection site during the Fiesta Salsera event.

"Our community has always responded when help is needed," said Luz Elena Schemmel, Executive Director of the HCCUSA Foundation. "By combining culture and compassion, Fiesta Salsera creates an opportunity for our community to celebrate together while extending support to families recovering from unimaginable hardship in Colombia and Venezuela."

Bringing Community Together.

The HCCUSA Foundation believes that cultural celebrations can also be powerful vehicles for community impact.

Through initiatives such as Fiesta Salsera Cincinnati, the Foundation brings together businesses, corporate sponsors, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and residents to create meaningful connections while supporting important causes. By leveraging the visibility and excitement of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Foundation seeks to strengthen community engagement and demonstrate how cultural pride can inspire collective action.

"Fiesta Salsera is an example of how cultural events can do more than entertain," said Cornejo. "They can educate, unite, and mobilize people to make a positive difference."

Sponsors and Community Partners
