Union Terminal has a long history with America’s servicemembers, dating back to World War II when an estimated three million troops flowed through Union Terminal. The Art Deco train station was the site of the nation’s first USO Troops-in-Transit lounge, offering soldiers some of the comforts of home while awaiting trains to training camps or ships to the front lines. Following the war, many soldiers returned home, including some liberators of Nazi concentration camps. Alongside these soldiers, Holocaust survivors disembarked at Union Terminal, beginning new chapters in Cincinnati.
