Miami University Symphony Orchestra Presents “Symphonic Fireworks” Concert Ahead of Thanksgiving
Oxford, Ohio — The Miami University Symphony Orchestra (MUSO) is thrilled to announce its upcoming concert, Symphonic Fireworks, on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. in Hall Auditorium. This dynamic event will feature a blend of classical masterpieces, a world premiere, and seasonal favorites to spark the holiday spirit.
The concert will open with Shostakovich’s Fesve Overture, Op. 96, conducted by senior Ezra Simmons, a past winner of the Miami University Composion Compeon. Simmons brings a fresh perspecve to Shostakovich’s jubilant work, seng the stage for a powerful evening. Connuing the program is Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 “Unnished”, a beloved work known for its lyrical beauty. The performance will also feature the world premiere of Professor Phillip Roberts’ Hocket Rocket, a cung-edge piece dedicated to MUSO and Ricardo Averbach. This invenve composion merges medieval hocket techniques with funk rock grooves, inspired by George Clinton and Funkadelic, creang a whirlwind of rhythmic intensity.
Adding to the excitement, two of Miami University’s presgious a cappella groups, The Mistz and Open Fih, will join MUSO as special guests. The Mistz, a celebrated female ensemble, and Open Fih, a renowned male group, will bring their unique harmonies, enhancing the concert with a memorable collaboraon of voices and instruments. Their presence promises to infuse the evening with special energy, making it a truly unforgeable experience of fun and music.
The program will connue with Wagner’s grand Overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, celebrang art and community, followed by Brahms’ Academic Fesval Overture, a spirited work symbolizing unity. To end the evening on a fesve note, MUSO will perform Leroy Anderson’s lively Sleigh Ride as a joyful lead-up to the Christmas season.
