News from Downtown - 07.29.21
Get ready for one of the most wild and action-packed events in Downtown Cincinnati this Saturday. Returning for its sixth year, Danger Wheel takes place along 12th Street in Pendleton, a downhill race where participants compete (and often crash) in adult-sized, big wheel tricycles. Watch as teams of three race each other to the finish line, clearing ramps and navigating through obstacles while also being hit by water balloons. It’s quite a sight to see, and spectators arrive early to snag the best spot to watch the race. If you plan on going, park your lawn chair along the route well before the races begin at 2 p.m. Danger Wheel is more than a race, with block party activities in Pendleton all day long, beginning at 11 a.m., with food trucks, beer and other beverage sales, as well as live music. Proceeds from Danger Wheel help support beautification efforts in the Pendleton neighborhood. Stop by and cheer on the brave participants!
One of my favorite events is Art After Dark at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and it’s exciting to have the event hosted in person once again. This month’s event, Art After Dark: A Monumental Celebration, will include a free ticket to see the new exhibition Paintings, Politics and the Monuments Men. The event features live music from the Monday Night Big Band in the courtyard, tunes from DJ ETrayn on the Art Climb, swing dancing with Pones, food for purchase from Dewey’s Pizza and Sweets & Meats BBQ, as well as a cash bar. The event happens tomorrow evening from 5-9 p.m.
