News from Downtown - 11.24.21

Happy Thanksgiving! Once you've finished having turkey and spending the day with family, stop Downtown where the holiday season will be in full swing. There are plenty of events coming up this weekend to get you in the festive spirit.

Holiday events at Fountain Square are back in person this year after an almost entirely virtual 2020. The season will kick off Friday with Macy's Light Up the Square, presented by ProLink Staffing. The Ice Rink and Fountain Square Container Bar open at 10 a.m.  for those who want to come enjoy the rink early, and the festivities will officially kick off at 6 p.m. with live music from 2nd Wind Band. There will be a special appearance from Santa Claus and the Macy's Holiday Tree will light up the sky at 7:25 p.m., immediately followed by a dazzling fireworks display. This time-honored tradition will bring Cincinnatians together on the Square following a virtual celebration last year. On Saturday, another beloved holiday event will be back in person, as Downtown Dazzle, presented by United Dairy Farmers officially returns to the Square. Families can come to the heart of Cincy for one of the biggest highlights of the holiday season, as Santa rappels off a Cincinnati skyrise, followed by a festive firework display, every Saturday through Dec. 18, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, for those looking to explore more of the urban core, FOUND is the perfect solution! This community-produced, month-long celebration is returning to Downtown for a second year, inviting all to celebrate a city founded during the holiday season. Two of FOUND's installations come to life this Friday, as Founders Forest will illuminate Imagination Alley with 50 lit trees starting at 7 p.m. every night through the end of the year. On your walk up Vine Street, take in the Windows of Wonder – 40 storefronts (all included on a digital map) that have been transformed into a holiday wonderland in a nod to the old Shillito's windows, which will also light up on Friday. Then, on Monday, the 4-week-long city-wide scavenger hunt, Finding Losantiville, gets underway. Sign up to join the hunt, which was designed by a team of expert game creators (and win prizes each week). One winner will even win a grand prize of $2,000!

Finally, while you're Downtown experiencing so many wonderful holiday happenings, don't forget to visit your favorite local business for Shop Small Saturday this weekend. Stop in to one of your favorite brunch or lunch spots, grab a drink or bite to eat, or start your holiday shopping at your favorite Downtown retailer. You can find deals and specials at your favorite establishments all weekend long, or support over 100 downtown businesses by purchasing a Queen City Card.
