Samuel Adams Cincinnati Taproom to Release Exclusive Collaboration Brew, Avena Colombiana, with Findlay Market’s The Arepa Place in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month
Avena Colombiana release kicks off month of cultural and entrepreneurial initiatives at Over- the-Rhine Taproom leading into Cincy Startup Week
 
Cincinnati - September 28, 2021 - The Samuel Adams Cincinnati Taproom celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by joining forces with Findlay Market-based Colombian restaurant, The Arepa Place, for an authentic collaboration beer. Samuel Adams Head Brewer Chris Siegman was inspired by the flavors of The Arepa Place’s traditional Colombian oatmeal drink and turned it into a beer enthusiast’s dream. The limited-edition Avena Colombiana brew will be available at the Sam Adams Taproom in Over-The-Rhine starting October 8th. 
 
The Arepa Place’s relationship with Samuel Adams stretches well beyond this collaborative beer.  Founded in 2016 by owner Isis Arrieta-Dennis, who is originally from Colombia, The Arepa Place started as a pop-up tent outside of Findlay Market serving its signature, family recipe arepas on the weekends, which is the Colombian/Venezuelan variation of corn cakes. In 2018, the restaurant received a grant and professional coaching through Samuel Adams’ Brewing The American Dream (BTAD) initiative, a priority program designed to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in the food and beverage industry. This partnership empowered The Arepa Place to open its first storefront at Findlay Market that same year. 
 
“I never imagined my life would turn out this way,” said Isis Arrieta-Dennis, owner of The Arepa Place. “I’ve always enjoyed making people smile through my Colombian cuisine and am so delighted to continue to make people happy through a collaboration beer that speaks to my culture with our neighbor, the Sam Adams Taproom.” 
 
The Arepa Place will soon be opening a second location in Wyoming, Ohio. The Arepa Place also sells select frozen products at Jungle Jims in Fairfield. Arrieta-Dennis credits much of this success to the BTAD program, which helps food and beverage startups achieve success through resources and financial support.
 
Clocking in at 7.6% ABV with 10 IBU, Avena Colombiana is Sam Adams take on an oat ale inspired by the Colombian oat shake. It is brewed with lactose, flaked oats and oat milk powder and aged on vanilla beans and cinnamon to produce an insanely smooth and delectable treat in a glass.
 
“I was inspired to create this brew from The Arepa Place’s traditional Colombian oatmeal drink and wanted to complement the unique flavors with this one-of-a-kind beer,” said Sam Adams Cincinnati Taproom Brewer Chris Siegman. “I’m delighted that Samuel Adams and our Taproom can continue to support Ms. Arrieta-Dennis’ entrepreneurial journey through this collaboration.” 
 
This partnership is one of several small business-centric initiatives throughout the month of October, culminating with Cincy Startup Week, happening October 25-29, which Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream will be sponsoring. 
 
Avena Colombiana will be available beginning October 8 at the Sam Adams Taproom, while supplies last.
