Cincinnati Boychoir’s virtual Watch Party will feature new music produced during the pandemic via YouTube premiere
CINCINNATI, February 22, 2021 – Cincinnati Boychoir presents their Founder’s Day Virtual Concert Watch Party on March 6 at 7 pm. The virtual concert will take place on Cincinnati Boychoir’s YouTube Channel, and will feature new performances rehearsed remotely and recorded in person from Boychoir’s three ensembles.
This is the first performance given by Boychoir since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing shut down in March 2020, when choir programs across the country reoriented their programming to online. The Watch Party concert will feature two new pieces recorded in a socially distanced ballroom at Cincinnati Music Hall, as well as recordings from various outdoor Boychoir events throughout the season.
From Artistic Director Jason Holmes: “While we always think of the Cincinnati Boychoir as a beloved community, the state of the world reminded us that we needed to double down on that intent in every way, including with our programming.
“We’re Goin’ Around” is a ring play from Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha. In several cultures around the world, but especially in African-American culture, ring plays were a way to build community in a fun and artistically expressive way.
“We also wanted to sing about and reflect on community in a more immediate way. So, we called on a jewel of the Cincinnati choral community, Steve Milloy, to create an arrangement of “Lean On Me.” You’ll hear parts of this arrangement in the Watch Party too!
“We hope viewers can see and feel the bonds that have been so sustaining to us (young people and young-at-heart people!) this year, even while we’re singing 10+ feet away from each other!”
The Watch Party can be accessed through YouTube.com/CincyBoychoir, and a live chat function will allow viewers to comment live and interact with the concert. The event will be presented at 7 pm on March 6, 2021, coinciding with the 56th anniversary of Cincinnati Boychoir Founder’s Day. Admission to the online event is free.
This event has been made possible by sponsors Larry Pauly and Bill Heckman of Coldwell Banker Realty, Barbara and Daman Turner, ennoble, and the Melody A Ghiloni Insurance Agency. The Cincinnati Boychoir receives ongoing generous support from ArtsWave, Ohio Arts Council, the Charles H. Dater Foundation, and the Louise Dieterle Nippert Musical Arts Fund.
