News from Downtown - 4.28.22

It’s all about the Flying Pig this weekend and rightfully so! After all, it is the largest weekend party in town, and everyone is invited. Whether you are a runner, a walker, a volunteer, or a supporter, whether you want to crush your personal best, run for charity or just for sheer joy – the Flying Pig is the place to be. There are loads of things to do and see.

Venture out to Duke Energy Convention Center on Friday and Saturday and check out P&G Health and Fitness Expo. Besides serving as a packet and premium pickup for participants of the Flying Pig Marathon, the expo hosts local and national vendors. Take your time and visit the booths, you’ll surely find something to honor the athlete in you! Smale Park is hosting the Family Fun Festival that starts at 7:30 am on Saturday. From there you can cheer the runners participating in one of many events, including the First Watch Flying Piglet (for the kiddos) at 8:30 am, and everyone’s favorite dog run, the Flying Fur at 1:00 pm. The weekend wraps up with the marquee event, the Flying Pig Marathon powered by P&G starting at 6:30am.

Downtown offers many great options to refuel after the race. For a hearty breakfast head to Sacred Beast Diner, Sleepy Bee Caffe, Sugar n’ Spice, or Maplewood. At the family run Sacred Beast Diner try one of their breakfast combos, or the fluffiest omelet you’ll find in the area and make sure to ask for the Bread Pudding French Toast in advance – it sells out fast! Book your table here. Serving Cincinnati since 1941, Sugar n’ Spice prides itself today on creating a fun, friendly, comfortable atmosphere, serving the same great food that has kept people coming back for generations. Sleepy Bee is a gathering place that offers locally sourced sustenance – food that tastes, makes you feel, and is, good. You can check their menu here. Maplewood Kitchen and Bar offers West Coast-style cuisine, which emphasizes healthy food using local and seasonal ingredients. The menu proudly features a lot of grains and super foods, as well as freshly squeezed juices. Add a drop of fresh orange juice in your bubbly and celebrate your wins with a mimosa!

Speaking of mimosas, mark your calendars for the 7th annual Mimosas for Memories event hosted by the Giving Voice Foundation. This unique fundraiser aims to raise not only money, but also a sense of connection and awareness in our community around Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Be part of that energy on Saturday, April 30, at 11:00 am at the University Club of Cincinnati. You can donate and get your tickets here.
