Freedom Center joins local leaders to unite against hate May 16
CINCINNATI - The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will join over 35 local organizations to unite against hate and declare We Are Cincinnati. Freedom Center President & COO Woodrow Keown, Jr. will join local leaders in speaking out against rising violence and hate against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and to stand with all who experience bigotry and hate in our nation.
“This is our nation, and we challenge everyone to protect the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all Americans of all backgrounds,” said Keown. “We challenge everyone to enjoy the vibrancy that can occur when we see all colors. Ours is a bright and beautiful nation - if only we paint with all our colors.”
Keown will speak alongside Jeff Berding, president of FC Cincinnati; Patricia Collins, former head of the Department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati; Sarah Weiss, executive director of the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center; and Rabbi Gary Zola; among others.
The We Are Cincinnati rally is being organized by the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA), a non-partisan nonprofit organization. In addition to speeches calling for unity and denouncing racially-motivated hate, the event will feature dance and music performances by award-winning Asian American groups.
