POSITION SUMMARY:
Working in conjunction with the Chief Engineer, the Facility Technician assists with overall day-to-day mechanical, functional, and aesthetic maintenance of our Aronoff Center for the Arts facility. This position acts as Engineer-on-Duty during events; supports/completes repairs and preventive maintenance requests and facilitates ongoing building improvement efforts. This position also maintains proper overall appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the venue. The Facility Technician will work independently and as part of a team, providing solutions to technical issues while delivering excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Include but are not limited to: Assist with installation, operation, maintenance, or repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications. Conduct and supervise inspections for preventive and corrective maintenance of all utility control systems, alarm systems, life safety systems, and related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, motors, sprinkler systems, pumps, and others. Perform repairs and respond to emergency maintenance quickly, summoning additional assistance as needed. Perform welding, carpentry, furniture assembly, locksmith tasks, and general handy work. Perform tasks that serve to enhance and elevate the overall operation and aesthetic of the building. Assist in maintaining detailed records of all work performed. Work to support an energy management program to ensure all systems are operated in the most efficient manner possible. Acts as facility representative as needed in conjunction with maintenance services vendors. Assure preparedness of all spaces for public and client satisfaction. Execute event advance details when requested by Event/House Manager including accessible seating set-ups, refrigeration coordination, and other event essential functions. Communicate with Chief Engineer on building needs/concerns. Assist or lead emergency responses as necessary. Perform grounds maintenance tasks including snow removal and management efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or higher, and a minimum of four years related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
- Experience in one or more of the following: electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry, or engine repair. Related certification a plus.
- Experience in a banquet, special event, other public assembly setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with performing arts environments and systems a plus.
- Proficiency with computers including Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS); and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and find solutions.
- Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to participate in emergency response efforts with a calm and collaborative demeanor.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Possess professional demeanor and appearance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to move easily up and down stairs and climb ladders. Must be able to lift, slide, drag, carry, and otherwise manipulate objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform outside work duties during inclement
weather (e.g., snow removal). Regular exposure to noise levels typical in performance and concert industry events and mechanical spaces.
SCHEDULE: This position will be scheduled for a variation of days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required to meet operational needs. Participation in an on-call rotation for emergency situations, maintenance malfunctions, or staffing cancellations is expected. Access to reliable transportation that accommodates commuting any day of the week and all times of the day (including during inclement weather unless facility closes due to weather emergency).
