The Loyola Project film screening
Nearly 60 years ago, the Loyola Ramblers of Chicago broke racial barriers and changed college basketball forever. A new documentary tells the story of the legendary team and is being screened at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center as part of their Freedom Film Series.
The Loyola Project pairs archival footage with modern day interviews to reexamine the 1963 Loyola Ramblers team and how they fought for equality on the basketball court and inspired people around the country during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Following the screening, the films director, Patrick Creadon, and former University of Cincinnati basketball player and Olympic Gold Medalist George Wilson will engage in a discussion on race, sports and competing for equality.
Tickets are $15 and available now with both an in-person option or streaming option available.

The Freedom Film Series is a partnership between the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and LADD Inc. that uses film to address issues of systemic injustice. Following each screening, the audience is invited into dialogue with the issues presented in the film during conversations with filmmakers, content matter experts and activists. Topics addressed during the series include inequity in policing and the criminal justice system, the disparate impact of illegal drugs on communities of color, systemic racism, disability and more.
