Safety Ambassador

The Safety Ambassador is a part- to full-time position as assigned, primarily Tuesday through Sunday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM some evenings and special event shifts as needed. This position serves as the frontline presence for safety, security, and hospitality at Findlay Market. This role helps ensure a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable experience for vendors, shoppers, and visitors while supporting market staff in daily operations. The Safety Ambassador will monitor the market environment, assist with incidents or emergencies, enforce market policies, and serve as a resource for information and customer service.

This role requires working in a fast-paced, outdoor/indoor public environment with high

pedestrian traffic. The Safety Ambassador will be equipped with a radio and phone for communication. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. The Safety Ambassador reports to the Market Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

Safety & Security

  • Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the market and surrounding areas.
  • Monitor activity in and around the market house, vendor stalls, and parking lots to identify and respond to safety or security issues.
  • De-escalate conflicts between patrons, vendors, or members of the public in a calm and professional manner.
  • Respond promptly to incidents and notify Operations staff and/or emergency services when needed.
  • Conduct periodic patrols of the market premises, including restrooms and exterior areas.
  • Support market emergency procedures (fire, severe weather, medical emergencies, evacuations, threats).
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, suspicious activity, or security concerns to the Operations Manager.
 

Customer Service & Public Engagement

  • Provide directions, information, and assistance to shoppers, vendors, and visitors.
  • Represent Findlay Market in a positive and professional manner.
  • Assist with lost and found procedures.
  • Offer guidance on market rules, policies, and services in a friendly but firm way.
 

Operational Support

  • Act as the primary contact for daily radio communications related to safety/security.
  • Support staff during opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Assist in managing crowd control during peak hours, events, and emergencies.
  • Document incidents, accidents, or unusual activity in daily logs/reports.
  • Work collaboratively with CFFM Operations staff, cleaning staff, and vendors to maintain a safe and welcoming market environment.
 

Values, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Prior experience in security, safety, customer service, or public-facing roles preferred.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and approachable under pressure.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods and perform light physical tasks (moving barricades, assisting in emergencies).
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow established procedures.
  • Familiarity with Findlay Market and the surrounding community a plus.
