Certification Specialist & Outreach
The primary responsibility of the Outreach & Certification Specialist is to assist clients in applying for MBE, WBE, EDGE, and Veteran-Friendly certifications.
- 75% of the time engaged in in-depth consulting with clients to determine their needs and capabilities.
- 25% of the time providing essential MBAC services to the public and administrative support.
- Works closely with Division’s Business Certification Manager and other Division & MBAC Staff
- Attending Training sessions for Business Advisors to facilitate on-going knowledge and ability to provide in-depth consulting.
- Offer Certification Workshops
- Other duties as assigned by the MBAC Director, Division’s Business Certification Manager or other Division staff.
The expected deliverable of the role is an increase in the number of clients who are educated about the certification process, certifications offered, and the benefits associated with being certified. Heightened awareness about the Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) program; improvement in our service delivery and efficiencies; and an improved overall customer-focused experience. This is a key role in the marketing of services, events, and programs for the MBAC Region.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate certification and capability statement training.
- Conduct and manage certification labs & workshops with strategic partners.
- Certify companies for MBE/EDGE/WBE/ and VBE.
- Data management & tracking certifications.
- Develop and disseminate general collateral and specialty marketing materials for access on several platforms to promote certifications, and outreach activities.
- Coordinate and manage events, workshops, and webinars with strategic partners.
- Develop outreach action plans.
- Participate in strategy meetings with the management team.
- Attend quarterly MBAC Advisory Board meetings.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) required to perform essential duties of the job:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, organizational, and project management.
- Well-developed customer service.
- Ability to analyze information and database management.
- Critical thinking and ability to effectively manage time and deliverables.
- Detail-oriented and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- At least 3 years of experience in the Customer Service, Community Development field or in a related area.
- College degree required.
- Reliable transportation is required for the success of the role.

Complexity and Scope of Work:
The Outreach & Certification Specialist must demonstrate professionalism in working with the MBAC team and the community in which they serve; will work effectively with the Regional Director to execute on strategic plans to achieve desired outcomes; will assist with management and implementation of processes and procedures as determined by the State of Ohio.
