Purpose:
The Grants Manager is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, writing proposals, managing grant submissions, and ensuring compliance. This role focuses on cultivating relationships with corporations, foundations, and other potential funders to secure financial support for both special projects and long-term institutional priorities at Mount St. Joseph University.

Duties:

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with funders, including government agencies, private foundations, and corporate sponsors, to support ongoing and future funding opportunities;
  • Provide grant-writing support as needed, including preparing applications, managing submissions, and fulfilling foundation requirements;
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including faculty and staff, to develop proposals that reflect the needs and priorities of the institution;
  • Provide guidance throughout the grant application process, ensuring compliance with all funder rules, regulations, deadlines, and reporting requirements;
  • Maintain regular communication with funders to share program outcomes, foster engagement, and strengthen alignment with the University’s mission;
  • Cultivate and steward foundation relationships to maximize grants and gift opportunities, including identifying collaborative partnerships with funders and external organizations when appropriate to leverage financial resources and enhance the University’s reputation;
  • Identify and proactively pursue foundation funding opportunities that align with the University’s programs and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure alignment of goals, outcomes, and timelines throughout the grant process.
  • Research, apply for, and manage state and federal grant opportunities, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and reporting standards.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to meet annual fundraising goals for assigned projects, as well as specific targets during university-wide comprehensive campaigns;
  • Track and manage the renewal process for ongoing grants, ensuring the University remains in compliance with all eligibility requirements for continued funding.
  • Assist in forecasting future funding needs and managing multi-year grants.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide training and guidance to faculty and staff members on the grant process and compliance requirements;
  • Oversee and maintain the University’s grant database system to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and accessibility of grant information.

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Supervision Received: Works under general direction toward broadly defined objectives; refers specific problems to the Director of Grants for Institutional Advancement when clarification or interpretation of organizational polices are involved.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of proven grant writing experience or a combination of grant writing and development experience.

Specialized Skills:  Possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be at ease in creating and sustaining interpersonal relationships; public speaking experience; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; maintain a high level of accuracy, consistently reviewing work to detect errors, oversights or omissions.

Work Environment, Physical Demands: Multiple service hours; computer data input; multiple concurrent tasks with service interruptions; extensive customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work; occasional travel.
