Medical Director, Physician Assistant Studies

Summary:  The Medical Director will assist the Chairperson/Program Director of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies with the attainment and maintenance of accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).  The Medical Director, in collaboration with the Chairperson, Academic and Clinical Directors, and faculty will assure didactic and clinical instruction meet current practice and ARC-PA standards.  The Medical Director will also represent the Program within the medical and academic community, assist with program design, curriculum development, and programmatic assessment. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Chairperson/Program Director and faculty with program design and development in both didactic and clinical instruction.
  • Apply knowledge of current practice standards to the role of the physician assistant.
  • Teach in areas of expertise.
  • Work with Chairperson/Program Director and Clinical Director in securing clinical sites.
  • Provide academic and career advising to matriculating students.
  • Participate in ongoing program assessment advising the Chairperson/Program Director regarding programmatic or policy changes when appropriate.
  • Attend University and other meetings on behalf of the Program. 
  • Represent the PA Program in the medical community and the local community at-large.
  • Collaborate with the Office of the President, Institutional Advancement, and other departments to enhance corporate, employer, alumni, and other stakeholder relationships, thereby developing additional resource opportunities.
  • Provide other duties as requested by the Chairperson/Program Director.

 

Qualifications

  • Medical doctor or osteopathic physician currently licensed in Ohio.
  • Certified by ABMS or AOA in area of specialization.
  • Knowledge of current standards of medical practice.
  • Working knowledge of ARC-PA Standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.
