Xavier University seeks a dynamic, creative, and innovative professional for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Graphic Design. The successfulcandidate will join a collaborative department committed to integrating liberal arts with creative disciplines. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
TEACHING
- Deliver undergraduate courses in Graphic Design, including foundational and advanced classes.
- Mentor and guide students in portfolio development and project-based learning.
- Continually improve curricula to reflect current trends and technologies in the field.
- Advise senior thesis students on their capstone projects.
- Actively participate in departmental, college, and university meetings.
- Advise and mentor students in their career paths including registration assistance, internships, etc.
- Serve on committees, contribute to program assessment, and collaborate with community partners for engaged learning opportunities.
- Foster relationships with alumni and local organizations to enhance professional pathways and networking for students.
- Engage in recruitment and program growth.
- Pursue an active agenda in research, creative work, or design practice that
contributes to the field. - Participate in relevant academic and professional organizations, and maintain a profile in the industry. Stay informed on emerging tools, techniques, and technologies in graphic design to continually enhance student learning experiences.
Required Qualifications
- MFA or terminal degree in Graphic Design or related field by the start of the appointment.
- Applicants with a BA or BFA in Graphic Design or related field plus 5 years or more of experience may also be considered.
- Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience in graphic design.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and fostering diversity within the classroom and department.
- Professional design experience and a demonstrated record of professional work.
- Expertise in emerging design fields such as UI/UX, digital illustration, motion design, 3D modeling and animation, game design, experiential design, or design
research. - Ability to teach a range of courses that integrate both technical and conceptual approaches to design.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and contributing to program development.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.
