Job Description Summary
Conservatory Manager responsible for the daily operations of The Conservatory including care of the living plant collection; implementation of public programming and community outreach; and teaching in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Job Description
Duties include, but are not limited to: management of daily operations of The Conservatory, its grounds, and maintenance contracts; development and implementation of public programming and community outreach centered on The Conservatory; maintenance of collection records, budget management, supervision of student workers, pest management, classroom teaching in biology (such as field botany, horticulture, or plant propagation), and support of Miami University courses utilizing The Conservatory.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in biology, horticulture, plant science, botany or related field, and 2 years of experience in greenhouse operations and management. Pest management applicator’s license or acquisition of a pest management applicator’s license within 6 months of employment.
- Consideration may be given to candidates with experience with identification and cultivation of local native plants; experience in the cultivation of tropical and other exotic plants; college teaching experience; experience with community education programs and outreach; a record of proposal writing and external funding; publication of peer-reviewed articles and/or articles for the general public; or a PhD in biology, horticulture, plant science, botany, or a related field.
