Job Description Summary
Assistant Professor of Interior Design (tenure-track) to teach design studio and lecture- or seminar-based courses related to design, technology, and professional practice. Candidates will be required to develop and/or continue a strong peer-reviewed research/scholarship/creative activity agenda in the discipline, advising of students, engagement in service to the department, division, university and/or communities at large.

Job Description
The Department of Architecture + Interior Design at Miami University, Oxford, OH, seeks qualified applicants to join our award-winning faculty team. We seek individuals that value a collegial and collaborative environment, innovative thinking, interdisciplinary approaches, integration and advanced application of digital media and emerging technologies, and a commitment to continuous teaching and curriculum development.

Primary duties will be in the CIDA-accredited professional BFA in Interior Design program. In addition, the faculty member will contribute to the interrelated pre-professional BA Architecture and NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture programs. The three degrees are offered by the Department of Architecture + Interior Design (ARC+ID)  within a studio-based culture of experiential learning in the College of Creative Arts (CCA). We strive to provide students rigorous professional preparation within the context of a nationally recognized liberal arts university.  Our students combine Miami University’s liberal arts foundation, arts disciplines, interdisciplinary course work, and studios to uniquely inform design processes, research, and project outcomes.  In addition, our students and faculty regularly engage with communities locally and globally.  Visit the Miami University ARC+ID Department website to learn more about us. 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have the appropriate terminal degree (M.A., M.S., M.F.A. or Ph.D. in interior design, interior architecture or other allied fields, or M.I.D., M. Arch.) and a demonstrated experience and interest in an area of interior design inquiry.
  • Consideration may be given to applicants with one or more of the following: 
    • A demonstrated interest or experience in design studio and seminar-based  teaching; at least three years of relevant professional design experience; competency in relevant industry-standard software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.); experience and/or interest in teaching professional practice and materials for interior design; a record of creative/professional practice; at least one degree in interior design or interior architecture; NCIDQ certificate, or have the capability to obtain an NCIDQ certificate within three years; applicable professional registration; proven responsiveness to emerging technologies, human-centered work, and environmentally responsible design principles.
