Job Description Summary
The Director, Business Intelligence Team, plays a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights that inform policy, strategy, and operational decisions across the university. This position leads their team in the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive data analytics and reporting solutions. The director collaborates with a broad range of stakeholders, including academic departments, administrative units, and external partners, to enhance data-informed decision-making.

This role requires a strong leader able to blend strategic thinking with technical expertise, aiming to leverage data to improve institutional efficiency, drive institutional success, and improve educational outcomes.

This position will report to the Assistant Vice President, Solution Delivery, and is part of the Solution Delivery leadership team.

Job Description
Essential Duties:
Strategic Leadership:

  •  Develop and execute an insights and analytics data strategy that aligns with the institution’s goals.
  • Advocate for the use of data analytics across departments to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Build strong, mutually supporting relationships with institutional peers  

Data Management:

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data warehouses, lakehouses, marts, and other data systems.
  • Ensure data quality and accessibility to support accurate and timely analytics.
  • Champion data literacy and data governance 

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Lead the development of analytics solutions to address strategic challenges.
  • Provide training and resources to support data access to the institution.

Team Management:

  • Manage and develop a leading team of data professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with institutional leadership to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with institutional leaders in efforts to establish data governance and, align initiatives with institutional priorities.
  • Communicate complex data topics (insights, governance, strategy) in a clear and actionable manner to diverse audiences.

Governance, Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure adherence to legal, ethical, and institutional regulations concerning data usage and privacy.
  • Origination and implementation of security best practices,  to protect data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Engagement with institutional leaders in managing and supporting the creation of and updates to institutional data management and governance standards and policies.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field earned by date of hire
  • A minimum of eight years experience in a related field

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting institutional data governance, data integrity, data management, and associated technologies, processes, and tools.
  • Team Manager or Director supporting modern analytic and warehouse tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, OAS).
  • Demonstrated ability to be a coach and mentor to team members.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in higher education analytics or a closely related field. 
  • Experience with Workday Reporting and PRISM data tools.
  • Knowledge of current trends and challenges in the education sector, particularly in data-driven decision-making and analytics.
  • Experience in the concepts behind Machine Learning, AI, and Predictive Analytics. 
  • AI/ML model creation, design, deployment, and training are a plus.
  • Certification or training in an Agile methodology. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a coach and mentor to team members.
