Job Description Summary
The John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship in the Farmer School of Business at Miami University invites applications for the Assistant Director of the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship for the Corporate Innovation Track. The Assistant Director for the Corporate Innovation Track will have a range of responsibilities related to advancing the co-curricular, teaching, and service activities in the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship for corporate innovation.

Job Description
The John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship is housed in the Department of Entrepreneurship, winner of the USASBE Model Program Award in 2024 as the top entrepreneurship program in world and ranked among the Top 10 public schools for undergraduate entrepreneurship studies for sixteen consecutive years in The Princeton Review® and Entrepreneur Magazine annual ranking of the Top 50 Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Programs in the world (#7 overall globally, #2 overall in the Midwest, and #1 in Ohio in 2024), combines strong academic scholarship and rigorous theoretical and empirical research with immersive, practice-based learning opportunities for students. Winner of the NASDAQ Center of Entrepreneurial Excellence Award in 2020 given annually by NASDAQ and the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC) to the top entrepreneurship institute in the world, the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship supports co-curricular programs in startup and venture capital, social entrepreneurship and impact investing, corporate innovation, and creativity. Distinguishing features include small class sizes and teacher-scholars with founder experience that deliver personalized learning, an interdisciplinary focus that engages students from every undergraduate major across campus, immersive, practice-based experiential learning opportunities in every class and in every co-curricular program, and integration with ecosystem builders across the U.S.

The Assistant Director for the Corporate Innovation Track will have the following duties and responsibilities: 

  •  Overseeing and supporting execution of the Redhawk50 program.
  •  Developing and/or supporting the development of new co-curricular programs in corporate innovation and other areas as assigned.
  • Supporting the development of entrepreneurship seminars and/or classroom projects.
  • Cultivating and/or supporting the cultivation of guest speakers and host company organizations for class projects.
  • Cultivating and/or supporting the cultivation of judges and mentors to participate in and support curricular and co-curricular activities.
  • Overseeing and/or supporting the planning, organization, and execution of the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship’s co-curricular entrepreneurship programs, including Advancing Women in Entrepreneurship (AWE), the RedHawk Launch Accelerator, World Creativity & Innovation Week/Day, Techstars® Startup Weekend Miami, Social Innovation Weekend, the Business Model Road Test Pitch Competition, and the RedHawk Venture Pitch Competition, among others.
  • Assisting with engagement activities and events for Miami University alumni-founders, alumni-funders, and other professionals from the business and startup ecosystem, among others.
  • Assisting with communications to external stakeholders, including Miami alumni, startup and business professionals from the broader ecosystem, and faculty and administrators from other colleges and universities, among others.
  • Assisting with student recruiting/retention; assisting with completion of rankings surveys and collection of success measurements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree; understanding of entrepreneurship (as demonstrated by coursework or professional experience).
  • Consideration may be given to candidates with a M.B.A. or advanced degree in related field; at least 3 years of experience in business or related field; experience as the founder of a startup or social enterprise, as an angel or institutional investor, or as a director or member of an accelerator for startups or social enterprises; experience with external corporate relations and/or executive level outreach and cultivation activities; experience with fundraising for universities and/or collegiate centers or institutes, non-profits and/or social enterprises; experience with startups, venture capital, social entrepreneurship, impact investing, corporate innovation, or creativity in entrepreneurial ecosystems; and experience developing and promoting new programs or events; understanding of executive level outreach and cultivation activities; excellent written and oral presentation skills; willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends; ability to adapt within an entrepreneurial start-up environment; and willingness to travel.
